THE SOON COMING KING

WHO IS GOD? THE SOON COMING KING

Jesus came the first time to save the world. We read in Revelation of the vision John was given about what will happen when He comes back.

God is not done here on earth. He is still bringing many people to Himself, as He has done in every generation since He left—and at the right time, He will return.

Jesus says in John’s vision, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave” (Revelation 1:17-18). What powerful words of hope for us if we believe in Him as our Lord and Savior. He is the soon and coming King!

WHO AM I? WAITING IN HOPE

It can seem like a lot of time has passed since Jesus went to heaven. But remember, God does not work in time like we do (see 2 Peter 3:3-10). His patience and love continue to work out His will to bring all things under His perfect authority.

So what are we called to do while we wait for Him? Followers of Christ have many things to do—work, live, come together in community, serve, make disciples in every area of life. But in all that we do, we are called to wait and persevere in hope. True faith in Christ comes with anticipation that He is coming again, though we don’t know the hour or day. In that hope we live.

WHAT DO I DO? LIVE IN VICTORY

If you read the rest of the book of Revelation, you will see the climax: a great and righteous King taking His throne and making all things new in a new heaven and earth with no sin. We can be confident that this is what will happen in the future. How should this knowledge affect how we live now?

We should live like the future has already happened. God will one day make all things new, but this process has already started in us. Therefore, we can live in victory over sin through the power and hope of His Spirit, knowing that He has already accomplished the victory and that the soon and coming King is on His way. This idea appears throughout the New Testament again and again.

Here’s one way of looking at it: If you knew the war had already been won by your king, how would you fight each battle? Have confidence in Christ, believer—He is that King!
