LIGHT

WHO IS GOD? LIGHT

Light is a timeless, vivid picture of God. Light pierces the darkness. Light symbolizes the good that overtakes evil. Light brings hope, happiness, clarity, and justice. When a room is dark, what vision or hope is in it? Light makes all the difference.

God is light. In a final, powerful picture, God describes Himself as the light of the new, perfect city He will establish one day. John writes, “I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light” (Revelation 21:22-23).

Are you eagerly waiting for that day?

WHO AM I? A CITIZEN IN GOD’S CITY

God promises a new city in the new heaven and new earth prepared for all whose names are in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Revelation 21:27). He wants us to be subjects in this amazing city that has no pain, hurt, or destruction and is lit by His presence. Just imagine what it’ll be like!

Who are the people whose names are in the Lamb’s Book of Life? It is everyone who has believed in the Lamb, Jesus Christ, who came to take away the sins of those who put their trust in Him for salvation. All who are saved will be citizens of His great, new city. This is one of the incredible rewards of following Christ—He will prepare a place for you there!

WHAT DO I DO? BELIEVE IN THE LAMB

Besides being the Lamb, Jesus also describes Himself as “the gate” (John 10:7-10)—the entrance that allows us to be with the Father in His Kingdom. Believing in Jesus and accepting His gift of forgiveness and new life is the only way to come to the city of God when all is made new again.

In a conversation with Jesus, the Pharisees said, “We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?” Jesus replied, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent” (John 6:28-29). Jesus wants us to believe in Him for salvation because He has given up His life as the Lamb slaughtered for our sins. Believe in Him, and He will accept you into His Kingdom and write your name forever in His Book of Life.
