ALL TO SERVE
Luke cared for people, their well-being, and the truth about Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. Luke was a doctor and cared for people physically, but God also called him to care for them holistically. God used him to write down the truth about Jesus Christ in detail so that his readers, including a man he calls Theophilus (Luke 1:1-4), would be confident in their faith in Jesus Christ.
Luke was a doctor of body, mind, and spirit, and he came to know the truth that God came to save people—and that everyone should know this. He wrote the Gospel of Luke, which has told the story of Jesus to countless people around the world. He also wrote Acts, the powerful historical account of how the church began.
Luke served in the background, caring for the apostle Paul, writing down the Scriptures, and serving people. His life dynamically shows us that God can use all our gifts when we hand them over to Him for His purposes and service.
THINK & PRAY
HOW CAN YOU USE YOUR GIFTS TO SERVE?
Luke cared about the details of people’s lives. Because of this attribute, we read in his Gospel about a spectrum of people with all different backgrounds and needs coming to know God through faith in Jesus Christ. Luke wrote to both Jews and Gentiles with compassion and detail, and God has used his accounts to share the Good News of Jesus with centuries of human beings. Luke’s attention to detail showed his care that people know the true medicine of the soul—Jesus Christ.
How are you allowing God to use you and your gifts as a letter of the Good News to others? Luke used his education, relational care, writing skills, and medical profession to care for people. God gives each one of us opportunities “for just such a time as this” (Esther 4:14) to “write Jesus” to our families, communities, and church bodies. First, let’s be confident of what we, like Theophilus, are taught in the Bible; then let’s go serve like Luke did!
