UNCHANGING

WHO IS GOD? UNCHANGING

How do you respond to change? What feeling does it produce in you? Change can be difficult, especially when something good seems to be fading away or a favorable situation has a clear end in sight. When relationships end, it can be heartbreaking. Life is made of many changing seasons. This can make our lives feel uncertain and can create a sense of being out of control. God, however, “never changes or casts a shifting shadow” (James 1:17). He is steady, unchanging, and reliable. He is trustworthy through all seasons, good and bad. He makes Himself available to us and helps us know Him through His Word. When you get to know God by reading about Him in the Bible, you will see that a relationship with Him is the most trustworthy relationship you can have.

WHO AM I? ALWAYS CHANGING

Our emotions swing us back and forth; our passions toss us around like waves; our desires lurch us forward and backward . . . and all of that is just inside of us! Now consider the changes that happen in the world. If you stay in the same city long enough, you will see neighborhoods change, people come and go, and fads constantly pass. We as humans clearly need stability! God created us to be guided by a relationship with Him. We are created to be dependent on the unchanging, anchor-like Creator, who can guide us through all the changes we go through. James wrote that those who believe in Jesus are God’s “prized possession” (James 1:18). God wants to be our anchor and guide. And let’s face it—we need Him!

WHAT DO I DO? SUBMIT & LET GOD GUIDE YOU

Submission is a word that seems ugly in our culture. Our society is fiercely independent. It seems like the more you don’t seem to need anyone, the more people admire you. But if you have ever gone through tragedy, you know that life can be full of unexpected trials. What we need to do, then, is submit to God. Why? Because He sees the big picture, and therefore we can trust His hand to guide us. This act of trust takes submission.

The way you’re living now, what guides your decisions? Does God get any say in the way you navigate life?

God has made us to submit to His care, and when we do, it brings peace to our lives. When you realize that God not only has the map to your life but also offers His loving touch to guide you through it, you will find that submitting to and trusting in Him is truly the best way to live.
